G.A.R.L. (Glasgow Airport Rail Link) Project Photographs
A view of the new modern L.E.D. signals at night at Glasgow Central High Level station. Some of these signals were installed last year in 2007 during Christmas and New Year and the rest were installed over the festive period this year as part of the G.A.R.L. (Glasgow Airport Rail Link) Project. If you look closely you will see that the numbers on the signal I.D. plates are all 4 numbers instead of the usual 3 and all have the letters 'GG'. The signalling upgrade work and also track improvement work between Glasgow Central High Level and Paisley Gilmour Street meant that no train services were allowed in and out of the station for three days which meant a lot of bus replacement services were used. Part of the work being carried out between Friday 26th - Monday 29th December 2008 was renumbering platforms 11 - 13 (including 11a) and numbers 14 and 15 (down in Glasgow Central Low Level station) to platforms 11 - 15 and 16 and 17 which is also part of the G.A.R.L. (Glasgow Airport Rail Link). These signals are now controlled from the new Network Rail Signalling Centre at Cowlairs. 27/11/08. 2848x2136 7.JPG |
A view of platforms 14 and 15 which were formally known as platforsm 12 and 13. The platforms have been renumbered because two new platforms, platforms 12 and 13 are going to be built next year as part of the G.A.R.L. (Glasgow Airport Rail Link) Project. platform 12 has replaced platform 11a which a platform extension from the top of the Network Rail offices down into the station where the station car park currently exists (which the platform extension will replace next year). 27/12/08. 2848x2136 8.JPG |
A view looking up to platform 12 (ex platform 11a) from platform 11 at Glasgow Central High Level. To the right hand side is the station car park which, as part of the Glasgow Airport Rail Link (G.A.R.L.) Project, will be closed down and replaced with two new platforms. The new platforms will be numbers 12 and 13. As you can see in the blue sign above in this photograph platform 12 is at the top of the station which now replaces the old platform 11a and this platform will get extended from its current location and straight through down to the station and platform 13 will be a new platform all togather being constructed. Construction work on the extension to platform 12 and for the new platform 13 is due to start early in 2009. 27/12/08. 2848x2136 9.JPG |
