In this gallery you will find all of the photographs I have and will be taking following the progress of the A - B (Airdrie - Bathgate) Railway Project. The A - B (Airdrie - Bathgate) Railway Project proposes the reopening of what was once a railway line between Airdrie and Bathgate which closed over 50 years ago. The project involves many objectives including upgrading the existing Bathgate - Edinburgh and Airdrie - Drumgelloch lines. The entire new route will be electrified and will be served with E.M.U. passenger trains when due to be complete in December 2010.

The Proposal Project Plans:

* Building new stations at Armadale, Blackbridge and Caldercruix

* Demolishing and relocating the existing Bathgate and Drumgelloch stations

* Upgrading the existing Airdrie, Livingston North and Uphall stations

* There will be a frequent service of four trains per hour running in each direction between Edinburgh and Glasgow when the railway line reopens

* The track bed between Drumgelloch and Bathgate is currently being used as a cycle path which will be relocated to make way for the double track being laid as part of the A - B Project

* There will a new stabling and cleaning L.M.D. (Light Maintenance Depot) built at Bathgate which will be built on the former location of the Bathgate Car Terminal, which will be relocation further east

A - B (Airdrie - Bathgate) Railway Project Progress:

On Tuesday 30th May 2006, the project bill was introduced to the Scottish Parliament and it passed the preliminary stage on Thursday 23rd November 2006. The project bill was finally passed by MSPs on 28th March 2007. Royal Assent was granted to the Airdrie - Bathgate Railway Project and Linked Improvements Act 2007 on Tuesday 8th May 2007. S.T.R.C. (Scotland Track Renewals Company) (Jarvis Rail) were awarded the contract for the redoubling of the line between Bathgate and Newbridge Junction. Civil engineering works between Bathgate and Newbridge Junction were carried out by Nuttall and Galliford Try carried out the the station improvement works at Livingston North and Uphall stations. The main contract for the rebuillding and electrification of the whole route was awarded to Balfour Beatty in September 2008. Construction work on the project started in June 2007 which started east from the Bathgate and work will continue further west towards Drumgelloch and Airdrie as time goes on up until the project is complete, which is expected to be in December 2010.
