The station was bein officially / formally reopened by Scotland's Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change Minister, Stewart Stevenson.

A side view of Class 170 452 in First ScotRail 'Barbie' livery which is seen calling at platform 2 at Laurenekirk station while working the 05.55 1A47 Glasgow Queen Street High Level - Dyce service. This was the first northbound service to call at the station this morning. The station opened to the public yesterday, Sunday 17th May 2009 which was the day the 2009 Summer timetable began, which was the proposed date the station was scheduled for reopening after over forty years. 18/05/09.

A photograph taken from platform 2 looking across to platform 1 at Laurencekirk station which shows some of the many platform facilities there are for passengers at the station including a waiting shelter, modern seating, help point facilities at both platforms and a footbridge with ramp links to take wheelchair passengers between the station platforms and the entrance and exit to the station to meet the D.D.A. (Disability Discrimination Act). 18/05/08.
